Driver handbook
Policies for drivers working with CargoCrew
These summaries set out what we expect from every driver we place. The full driver handbook is issued when you register and is available from your consultant at any time.
- ( 1 )
Drug and alcohol
Zero tolerance. You must not drive, or report for a shift, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including prescription medicines that affect driving. Clients may carry out random or with-cause testing, and airside sites test to aviation standards. A positive result or refusal ends the assignment.
- ( 2 )
Mobile phones and distraction
Hand-held phones must not be used while driving, including when stationary in traffic. Hands-free use is discouraged and is prohibited airside. Satnav and tachograph interaction must be done when safely parked.
- ( 3 )
Airside conduct and security
Your Airport Security ID Pass must be worn and visible at all times airside. Follow airside speed limits, give way to aircraft at all times, never leave a vehicle unattended with the engine running, and report any lost pass, security concern or unattended item immediately. Breaches are reported to the airport authority.
- ( 4 )
Drivers' hours and working time
You must comply with the drivers' hours rules (Regulation (EC) 561/2006 as retained in GB law), the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005 and tachograph law. Record all work, including for other employers, and tell us before accepting a shift if it would put you over a limit.
- ( 5 )
Vehicle checks and defect reporting
Carry out and record a walk-around check before every shift, recorded on your tachograph as other work. Report defects to the client's transport office before moving the vehicle. Never drive a vehicle you believe to be unroadworthy.
- ( 6 )
Load security
You are responsible for the load you carry. Check restraints, curtains, doors and landing legs before departure and after every stop. If you are unsure a load is safe, do not move it.
- ( 7 )
Health and safety
Wear the PPE the site requires, follow site inductions and traffic management, and report every accident, injury or near miss to the client and to CargoCrew on the same day. You may stop work if you believe there is a serious and imminent danger.
- ( 8 )
Equality, dignity and conduct
We expect courteous, professional behaviour towards clients, colleagues and the public. Harassment, discrimination and aggressive behaviour are not tolerated and will end an assignment.
- ( 9 )
Data protection
Your personal data is processed under UK GDPR to register you, check your right to work, licence, references and background, and to place you with clients. It is shared with clients and airport ID centres only as needed. See our privacy policy for how long we keep it and your rights.
- ( 10 )
Complaints and whistleblowing
Raise any concern about safety, legality or how you have been treated with your consultant, or by email to [email protected]. Concerns are investigated and you will not be disadvantaged for raising one in good faith.
